Ranchi: The 83-year-old tribal rights activist Father Stan Swamy has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Bhima-Koregaon case. According to the NIA, Father CPI is an active member of the Maoist. However, the agency has not released an official statement regarding the owner who was arrested from Ranchi.
Officials also say that Swamy's name was also involved in the Elgar Parishad case. Father Stan Swamy has been sent by a special NIA court in Mumbai to judicial custody till 23 October. According to the official, Stan Swamy is an active member of CPI Maoist. He had received funds from a colleague to further the CPM program. The agency also questioned Swamy about the case in August this year. His residence in Bagaicha social center was also raided on Wednesday.
Earlier on Friday evening, at four o'clock at Albert Ekka Chowk, a large number of social activists strongly opposed this action on behalf of the NIA. On this whole issue, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren also tweeted, 'What message does the BJP government at the Center want to send by arresting 83-year-old' Stan Swamy who raised the voice of the poor, the deprived and the tribals? What is this stubbornness to suppress every voice of your opposition? '
