Ranchi: Taking suo motu cognisance of the heinous burning of Ankita Singh in Dumka, the Jharkhand High Court has summoned the state police chief and ordered him to submit a report. A bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice SN Prasad said it seems there is no rule of law in the state. He said that there is not the slightest fear of administration and law among criminals.

Terming it a heinous crime, the Jharkhand High Court, in its oral observation, said several questions were also being raised on the police action in the case. Local DSP Noor Mustafa, in one of his statements, had described Shahrukh Hussain, who burnt Ankita alive, as a mental patient. The High Court has also strongly criticized this statement of the DSP. The High Court ordered the DGP to provide protection to the victim's family. At the same time, it has also come to light that if there was no negligence in the treatment of Ankita Singh, she could have been saved. In this regard also, the Jharkhand High Court has sought a report within a week. First, the advocate general of the state was asked to appear, and then the DGP was called. Referring to the arrest of the main accused, the DGP said that the police have taken action. He said the investigation is on and the state government has also recommended a fast-track hearing. The DGP also assured the Jharkhand High Court of providing justice to the deceased.

However, the court has said that now it will monitor the investigation itself. The High Court said that there has been negligence in this case, as no effort was made to get Ankita Singh quick and better treatment. The high court, in its observation, said the government did not show any seriousness in admitting her to a good hospital for early treatment.
