Ranchi, Jharkhand: In a significant political development, Jharkhand Minister Bebi Devi, who is contesting in the Dumri by-polls, exercised her voting rights on Tuesday morning. Radiating confidence, she expressed her gratitude for the local support.

Emerging from the polling station, Bebi Devi asserted, "I have garnered unwavering support from the people here. I have cast my vote, and we can only gauge the outcome after September 8, when the results are officially declared."

The Dumri by-poll in Jharkhand was necessitated due to the unfortunate demise of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Jagarnath Mahto. In a strategic move, JMM nominated Mahto's widow, Bebi Devi, as its candidate to represent the Indian bloc. She faces competition from NDA's Yashoda Devu and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Abdul Rizvi.

The by-elections, encompassing seven assembly constituencies across six states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, commenced at 7 am on Tuesday. Notably, this marks the inaugural electoral showdown between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the newly-formed Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) from the Opposition camp.

Apart from Dumri in Jharkhand, the by-elections are also being conducted in Kerala's Puthupally, West Bengal's Dhupguri constituency in Jalpaiguri, Uttarakhand's Bageshwar, as well as Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura.

The Election Commission is slated to announce the results of these by-elections on Friday, September 8. This electoral contest holds significant implications for the political landscape in these states and at the national level.
