J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik “Rumours about curfews and other actions should not be believed”

Srinagar: On Sunday, Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik reviewed the security situation in a meeting with State Administrative Council ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls 2019 and in the backdrop of February 14 Pulwama attacks. Malik was apprised of security scenario and gradual induction of additional Central Forces for election purposes in the meeting. 

However about 100 Companies of the Central Forces are being inducted into the state and more will be included in the weeks ahead. Additional police forces are needed for Lok Sabha polls owing to a terror threat to the candidates and voters on a much larger scale. Malik appealed to the people to view the induction of additional forces only in the context of upcoming elections and not in any other way. He asked not to give in to the rumour mill being vehemently fanned in certain quarters and to remain calm.  Governor Satya Pal Malik as saying "These rumours are unnecessarily creating an atmosphere of fear in the minds of people, leading to stress and disruption to normal life. Rumours about curfews and other actions should not be believed,".

It read."There is some security related action being taken by the forces, but this is purely related to the Pulwama attack which is an unprecedented one. The response of security forces is guided solely by the need to counter both the impact and any further action that may be taken by terrorist groups who are still out to disrupt our country and its democratic processes,"

The meeting was attended by bureaucrats and officials of the state which included: Chief Secretary Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor R K Goyal, Principal Secretary, Home and Rohit Kansal among others.

The J&K Governor also downplayed the cases of attacks on Kashmiris in other Indian states. Malik said "Over 22,000 Kashmiri students are studying outside the state and the number of students who have actually been injured or hurt in incidents is not even in single digits. The state's system of Liaison Officers in nine major cities has worked effectively so that there is no panic anywhere and students continue their studies safely. The work of LOs, helplines in State and other measures have ensured that the vast majority of students continue their studies uninterrupted,".
