Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday presented an appointment letter to Renu Verma, the wife of Vijay Kumar, the bus driver tragically killed in the Reasi terror attack. The appointment was handed over at Raj Bhawan, where the Lieutenant Governor reassured Vijay Kumar's family of the J&K administration's unwavering support and assistance.
Vijay Kumar, a resident of Reasi, was driving a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shivkhori shrine to Katra on June 9 when terrorists opened fire on the vehicle. The attack caused the driver to lose control, and the bus plunged into a gorge, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people and injuring over 30 others.
The Lt. Governor condemned the "cowardly terror attack" and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. "My condolences go out to the families of the martyred civilians. Our security forces and the JKP have launched a joint operation to hunt down the terrorists," Sinha said in a statement posted on X.
Following the attack, security forces have intensified their operations across Kashmir. Last week, the Army and police conducted a joint search operation in Dadooa Village in Jammu's Reasi district. The Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed that at least two terrorists were involved in the Reasi attack.
In a related incident, earlier this month, a group of armed personnel from Pakistan crossed the Line of Control and fired on a forward Army post in the Machhal Sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. One intruder was killed during the exchange of fire, but unfortunately, an Indian Army soldier injured in the encounter later succumbed to his injuries.
Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner of Reasi, and Vijay Kumar's family members were also present during the appointment letter ceremony at Raj Bhawan, marking a poignant moment of solidarity and support for the bereaved family.
