New Delhi: The agitation for the past 45 days on hostel fee hike at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is likely to end on Thursday. Six points were discussed on Wednesday after the meeting of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the student union officials for two consecutive days. On the proposal of six points prepared with the consent of the University, the Students' Union convened the General Body Meeting (GBM) on the night of Wednesday, December 11, 2019. After meeting with the students in this meeting, the movement in JNU is likely to end on Thursday.

According to sources, the ministry had a meeting with university officials before talking to the students' union on Wednesday. At the same time, after the consent of the university, senior officials of the ministry put the proposal before the students' union on six points. The union and the ministry will meet again on Thursday. In this, the pass proposal in GBM will be placed before the Ministry. However, the student is not ready to end the movement without refund of hostel fee hike.

Put this proposal before the student union: -

- Room rent will increase under hostel fee hike. The students will have to pay the room rent based on the revised hostel manual. However, students of BPL family will be given fifty percent discount in the fare. (Room rent of ten rupees has been increased from three hundred rupees and twenty rupees to six hundred rupees.)

- Utility and service charges will no longer have to be given to students. The UGC (University Grants Commission) will pay all its expenses to the JNU administration till further orders.

The Dean of the JNU Administration will issue a notification recognizing the Student Welfare Students' Union 2019 under the rules of the High Court.

Classes have been boycotted due to agitation in the campus for the last 45 days. Therefore the university administration will give time to extend the semester by two weeks to save the loss of students' studies. However, the university administration will demand to pass this proposal by placing it in the JNU Academic Council.

From today, the possibility of semester examination is less: The semester examination was to begin from Thursday in the university. However, except for some schools and centers, there are locks in the classrooms of others. Therefore, the possibility of starting the semester examination is also less.

Decision with the consent of students after GBM: The meeting with the Ministry has been fine. Where the proposal he has given, he is taking it to the general body meeting. The next decision will be taken only after the consent of the students.
