US President Joe Biden has called for a "wartime trial" against Russia over alleged civilian killings in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, where a mass grave containing more than 300 dead has been found.

In a press conference on Monday, Biden said: "I received backlash for referring to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin as a war criminal. Well, the truth is that you witnessed what occurred in Bucha. This qualifies him as a war criminal.

But we must gather the information, continue to supply Ukraine with the weaponry it requires to fight, and obtain all of the necessary details so that this may be a true wartime trial." The US President went on to describe Putin as "brutal," calling the incident in Bucha "outrageous."

"No, I think it's a war crime," Biden answered when asked if the purported Bucha deaths were genocide. The President went on to say that he was pursuing more penalties against Putin, but he didn't elaborate.

On April 2, Russian forces liberated Bucha, as well as Monastyrskyi, Irpin, Hostomel, Borodyanka, Makariv, Kopyliv, and Motyzhyn, all in the Kiev region. Later that day, Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk revealed that a mass grave in the city had been uncovered, burying nearly 300 bodies.
