According to a White House official, US President Joe Biden emphasised his commitment to transatlantic unity in a meeting with the leaders of the European Union (EU) at their Council meeting on Thursday (local time) in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"President Biden had a pleasant and friendly encounter with EU leaders at their Council meeting tonight," the official added, "where he shook the hand of practically every leader in the room and spoke with several of them longer."  The discussion concentrated on Russia and Ukraine, particularly sustained support for sanctions and humanitarian assistance.

"President Biden made remarkable closing remarks, speaking from the heart about why Europe (the EU, NATO, and the transatlantic alliance) is so essential to the United States," the official continued. Biden had already stated that he will "address China" with the European Council before leaving for the meeting, as per reports.

According to the media outlet, he also stated that "the single most critical thing that we can do to stop Putin  who is in our country, we believe he is already done war crimes" is for the US and Europe to unite.
