On Friday, BJP President JP Nadda stressed that his party and the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are committed to the issue of reservation. This statement of Nadda has come at a time when the Supreme Court had said a day before that reservation is not a fundamental right. On the other hand, Union Minister and LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan have demanded that all the laws related to reservation be put in the ninth schedule of the constitution so that it cannot be challenged legally.

In his statement further, BJP President Nadda said, "Some people are trying to create confusion in society about reservation. We are in favour of reservation. Modi government and BJP are fully committed to the reservation. We are committed to social justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeated this pledge. Our priority is social harmony and providing equal opportunities to all."

Paswan said that reservation for people belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes and general castes in government jobs and education may not be a fundamental right, but it is a constitutional right. He expressed displeasure over the controversy arising over the issue of reservation, saying that the Scheduled Castes and Tribes were granted reservation under the Poona Pact between BR Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. Apart from this, Paswan said in a statement, 'Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) demands from all political parties that they again come together on this social issue. They have been supporting this issue before also. In order to eliminate the controversy arising, again and again, try to include all the laws related to reservation in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Significantly, the Supreme Court said on Thursday that reservation is not a fundamental right. The court made this remark while hearing several petitions filed for quota for OBC candidates in medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.
