New Delhi: 25 June 1975. It is recorded in black letters in the history of Indian democracy. Emergency was declared by the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on 25 June 1975 at the behest of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Today 45 years have passed since the declaration of emergency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is always an attacker on the Congress about this.

A video was shared by the BJP today, titled - 25 June 1975, Black Chapter of Emergency Democracy. Simultaneously, the BJP wrote another tweet that wrote, 'Heart-rending of every voice raised in protest against Emergency on 25 June 1975, the darkest misdeeds of Congress and Indian democracy.' At the same time, BJP National President JP Nadda said, 'India salutes all those great personalities who, despite enduring torture, fiercely opposed the Emergency. It was the tenacity of our satyagrahis that India's democratic values successfully won over a totalitarian mindset.

Emergency was implemented in the country for 21 months from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977. The then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared emergency under Article 352 of Indian Constitution at the behest of then PM Indira Gandhi. This was the controversial and undemocratic period of Indian democratic history.
