Shimla: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief and Union Minister JP Nadda is scheduled to visit the flood-ravaged regions of Himachal Pradesh tomorrow. His visit aims to assess the damage in Samej, a disaster-hit area in Rampur, and engage with local residents who have been severely impacted by the recent extreme weather conditions.

Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with heavy rainfall and a series of cloudbursts that have caused extensive loss of life and property. Ongoing relief and rescue operations are focused on the most affected areas, with the state’s disaster management teams working tirelessly to mitigate the damage.

Earlier this month, BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, visited the cloudburst-affected areas in Rampur. During her visit, she expressed deep sorrow over the hardships faced by the people of Himachal Pradesh. "It’s heartbreaking for us. The lives of people in the mountains are difficult. Every year, such tragedies strike and cause immense harm to the lives and properties of the people of Himachal Pradesh," she said. Kangana also mentioned that both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have been briefed on the situation and have assured further assistance through relief funds. She committed to seeking additional help from various ministers and pledged to visit Himachal to support the people during these tough times.

State Minister Jagat Singh Negi provided an update on the flood situation, stating that while the incidents of cloudbursts have decreased, the situation remains precarious due to heavy rains the previous night. He highlighted the ongoing relief and rescue operations, noting that the number of missing persons has risen to over 52, with fears growing that they may have perished given the time since their disappearance.

The recent heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in Himachal Pradesh have resulted in a devastating financial loss of Rs 900 crore, particularly affecting the state's Irrigation and Public Health (IPH), Public Works Department (PWD), and road infrastructure. The state government has placed all districts on high alert for potential rain and natural disasters through September. Despite ongoing rescue efforts, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed concern over the lack of immediate assistance from the Union government, although assurances of future support have been given.
