Prayagraj: In the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh gave a fee of Rs. 15,000 to a poor Dalit student for admission to IIT-BHU (IIT-BHU). A Dalit student named Sanskriti Ranjan could not deposit a fee of Rs 15,000 for admission to IIT BHU till the last date, which prevented him from getting admission in the IIT BHU. The student had filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the high court demanding that he be given some more time to arrange the fees.
Sanskriti Ranjan, a meritorious student from the beginning, had passed the JEE Advance and Men's Examination in the reserved category, after which a seat was allotted in the 5-year integrated course related to mathematics and computers in that IIT BHU, but the fee of Rs. 15,000 required for Sanskriti admission could not be arranged within the stipulated time, He had then filed a petition seeking some more time to arrange the fees. According to the petition, the student's father had a bad kidney, he had to undergo a kidney transplant. The student's father also has dialysis twice a week. In such a situation, due to the father's illness and covid-19, the economic condition of the family of Sanskriti deteriorated and the Sanskriti was not able to pay its fees.
According to the student, she also wrote several times seeking some more time from the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, but there was no response after which the student filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the High Court appealing for fee relief. On this, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh directed the Joint Seat Allocation Authority and IIT-BHU to admit the student within 3 days and if the seat is not left vacant If so, a separate seat should be arranged for him. The court has ordered to list the case for the coming week for hearing.
