Juhi Chawla, a renowned Bollywood actress, has been a household name since the 80s. She ruled the industry as a lead actress throughout the 90s and even appeared in numerous films post her prime. Fans adore her remarkable acting skills and charming on-screen presence. With a career spanning over three decades, Juhi has shared screen space with many prominent actors and has been a part of several iconic films.
However, her personal life has been marred by tragedy. In an interview with Rosalina Bhattacharya for her book "Spooked," Juhi revealed that she used to have recurring nightmares about her mother's death since childhood. She was only 10 years old when these nightmares started, and they would leave her shaken, with cold hands and feet, and drenched in sweat. But the relief would come only when she saw her mother safe and sound.
Tragically, Juhi's nightmares became a harsh reality in 1998 when her mother, Mona Chawla, passed away in a road accident in Prague. Juhi was shooting for her film "Duplicate" at the time, and her mother was with her on the sets. Just a day before the accident, Juhi and her mother had bought a gift for Karan Johar's birthday, which was to be celebrated the next day. Mona Chawla had gone out for a walk and never returned. Juhi described the incident as devastating, stating that they had arrived in Prague just a day earlier, and three days later, they were returning with her mother's body.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Juhi recalled the fateful day, saying, "We had reached Prague, and the next day was Karan Johar's birthday, so my mother and I had bought him a gift. The next morning, before I left for my shoot, she went out for a walk and never came back. It was very painful because we had just arrived, and three days later, we were returning with her body."
Juhi's mother's untimely demise was a shattering experience for the actress, who has always been very close to her mother. Despite her professional success, Juhi has never forgotten the pain of losing her mother and has often spoken about it in interviews. Her story serves as a reminder that even in the midst of glamour and glory, personal losses can be overwhelming, and the scars can last a lifetime.
