New Delhi: Judge Sharad Arvind Bobde will be sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI) today i.e. on Monday. According to a statement, President Ramnath Kovind will administer the oath of office to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) at 9.30 am. The outgoing Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had on October 18 recommended Justice Bobde be appointed as the Chief Justice.
Judge Bobde is currently the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Bobde will serve 18 months as the Chief Justice. He will retire on 23 April 2021. Judge Bobde was born on 24 April 1956 in Nagpur. He graduated in law from Nagpur University. He was registered with the Bar Council of Maharashtra in 1978 and was nominated as Senior Advocate in 1998.
He was appointed Additional Judge in the Bombay High Court on 29 March 2000. He was made the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Judge on 16 October 2012. He was made a judge on 12 April 2013 in the top court. Former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi was appointed the Chief Justice on 3 October 2018 and retired on Sunday. Let me tell you that the bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi has given a historic verdict in the Ayodhya case.
