Kakanmath temple nestled in the Sihonia village Morena, about 70 km from the city of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This temple is very high and grand but this temple is built by placing stones on top of each other and that too without any lime, cement, and thickening. You will be surprised to hear that this huge temple was built in just one night but without any human hand the strong temple around this temple is broken. But this temple continues to this day. 

It is said that the construction of this temple was done by the ghosts in one night but they left it incomplete and left. Actually, Lord Shiva is also adored by Devs, demons and ghosts and demons that is why they all believe in Mahadev.

The history of this temple is about one thousand years old. This temple was built by the king of Kachwah dynasty for his beloved queen.

The 11th century Kakanmath temple still boasts of its unique architecture. The Shiva Linga is established in the middle of this temple built by making stones adjacent to each other. The specialty of this temple is that no lime or mortar has been used in its construction. The special thing is that the 120 feet high temple and the sanctum sanctorum are safe even after hundreds of years.

Looking at this temple, it seems that it can fall at any time. Its stones are seen swinging in the air. But the Kakanmath temple has stood like this for hundreds of years, it is a wonderful miracle. This is another feature of it. That all the temples around this temple are broken. But the Kakanmath temple is still safe.

This temple was built by Raja Kirti Singh. Queen Kaknavati, the wife of the king, was an exclusive devotee of Lord Bholenath. It was he who built this temple, hence the name Kakanmath temple. The specialty of this temple is that this temple is built on an earthen mound and is 120 feet high.

In the second phase of this temple located in Kakanmath, as soon as we climb up the stairs, then a pavilion of unmatched pillars will be seen. Shiva Linga is situated in the sanctum sanctorum. This is a unique Shivling in itself, where Nandi Maharaj is not there.

The ghosts fled leaving the temple incomplete. It is said that the ghosts started the construction of this temple at night. But in the morning when a woman from the village ran a mill to grind flour. So hearing his voice, the ghosts fled from there, and the temple work remained incomplete. It is a popular belief that the day the nine brides of the barber caste come out in front of this temple together, then this temple will automatically disappear on that day.

Kakanmath temple located in Morena is a special place for tourists. Seeing the art here and the big rocks of the temple, even tourists can not stop themselves from praising this temple.

The idols of deities on the walls of the temple remind tourists of Khajuraho. But due to the neglect of the administration, tourists sometimes come here. But due to lack of facilities, they feel cheated.

What is the truth about the temple, only those above know. But elders say that this temple has been built overnight by ghosts.
