Sawan month is special in many ways. Everyone is well aware of the fact that Lord Shiva is specially worshipped in the month of Sawan and Mondays of Sawan are special in many ways. The festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated in the month of Sawan. Every year this festival is celebrated on Shukla Panchami of Sawan month. This time Nagpanchami will be celebrated on Saturday, 25 July. Nag-Devta has been specially related to Tridev, Brahma, Vishnu, and Lord Shiva, though there was an occasion when a serpent named Kaliya challenged Lord Krishna, the outcomes were surprising.

This is also mentioned in the scriptures. A reference to Shri Krishna and Nag, when Shri Krishna was a child, he was playing with his friends on the banks of river Yamuna, during this time, his maternal uncle Kansa had sent a snake named Kalia in the Yamuna to kill Shri Krishna. He walks into the Yamuna and Shri Krishna lands in the Yamuna river to take his ball. Everyone, there was familiar with Kalia's terror.

While Shri Krishna goes in the Yamuna in search of his ball, the snake named Kalia challenged Lord Krishna. However, he was unaware of whom he was challenging. Kalia and Shri Krishna faced each other, where Shri Krishna beats him fiercely and defeats him, leaving him alive. Shri Krishna said that he would have to leave from here and reside somewhere else. Kalia later left the place, apologizing to Lord Krishna.
