CHENNAI: Kamal Haasan, a well-known actor and the leader of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), has asked the Tamil Nadu government to implement the Right to Service Act immediately.
In a statement released on Friday, Haasan stated that this will result in the timely delivery of numerous services, hence reducing corruption. The Act, according to the MNM chairman, will aid in the timely delivery of birth certificates, death certificates, legal heir certificates, and the acquisition of ration cards. The actor-turned-politician encouraged the state administration to enact the legislation on Friday, the final day of the current Assembly session.
The Madras High Court's Madurai bench had urged the state government to consider enacting the Right to Service Act in 2019, he said, adding that the ruling DMK had promised to enact the Act in its election manifesto, and the Governor had mentioned it in his address to the previous Assembly session.
He said that the Right to Services Act has been passed in 20 states throughout the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, and New Delhi, among others. Separate departments supervise the delivery of services in Madhya Pradesh and Goa, he said.
