Kanpur: A major fire broke out in four shops from a short circuit near the railway track from a thermal power plant in Panki on Monday morning. The fire was doused by two fire tenders that came to the notice of the CISF personnel deployed in the power plant's security. It took about an hour and a half to douse the flames. By then the goods kept in the four shops had been burnt to ashes.
As soon as the mattress caught fire, it was learned that Sonu, a resident of Ratanpur colony, has a mattress shop on Panki Kalyanpur Road near his power plant. At 4:00 am on Monday, a short circuit in the electric cable caused a fire in the shop. The fire broke out in the mattress. The fire has also engulfed the mattress shop of Mahendra Singh, a resident of Swaraj Nagar in Panki C block, Shivam Singh's mattress house in Mirzapur village of Ratanpur, and Pachu Kumar's juice shop in Bahraich. Residents in the vicinity reported the incident to the shop owners and tried to douse the fire by taking water in the bucket.
CISF jawans report the incident to the Fire Brigade: According to reports, the CISF personnel posted at the power plant reported the incident to the Fire Ministry after seeing the high flames rising. On receiving information, firemen who arrived from the Fazalganj fire station doused the fire in about an hour and a half after a hard fight. Earlier, all the four shops were burnt to ashes, and goods were also burnt. Panki police station in-charge Atul Kumar Singh said that a short circuit fire has been reported in the cable that came into the shop from an electric pole.
