Shimla: Many brave soldiers have lost their lives for the country, and with their valour, they have failed the plans of the enemies. On 26 July 1999, in the Kargil war, many brave soldiers set an example of indomitable courage. One such brave warrior, who has won the feat of bravery in the Kargil war, is Captain Raghunath Singh. He was felicitated with Veerchakra. He was a resident of Gharota village of Pathankot.

Sharing the experience of the Kargil War with the same enthusiasm and passion, Captain Raghunath Singh said "Captain Vikram Batra fought as a war hero in Kargil. Captain Batra chose the Indian Army by rejecting a salary of lakh rupees. Captain Batra bested 10 Pak soldiers and hoisted the tricolour at point 5140 peaks".

After the martyrdom of Captain Batra, Subedar Raghunath (now retired captain) took command. And crawling along with all the companions attacked, and avenged the martyrdom of Captain Batra by waving the tricolour on the icy peak, killing 12 Pak soldiers including Pak Commander Imtiyaz Khan. Captain Raghunath Singh further told "On July 7, 1999, Captain Vikram Batra got the task of liberating the top of Point 4875 of Moscow Valley from the opposition. And he was also with them during that time. While fighting bravely, Captain Batra got rid of the enemy and thus succeeded reprimanding the enemy."
