Karnataka: COVID-19 positivity were found in 99 more medical college students and faculty members in Dharwad, bringing the total number of afflicted medical students to 281 on Saturday, informed Dharwad District Collector Nitesh Patil.
"This number could rise because 1,822 test results are still pending," the district collector said. He went on to say that only six individuals out of 281 are symptomatic, while the rest are asymptomatic. Everyone has been quarantined and is receiving treatment.
SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad, Karnataka, had recorded 66 positive cases earlier on Friday. Following that, the district administration tested more persons, including students, staff, and affected students' major contacts, and 116 of them tested positive, bringing the total number of infected students to 182. On November 17, the students attended a function on the college campus.
As all of the patients received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine, they have showed no significant symptoms related with the virus. A holiday has been announced in educational institutions within a 500-meter radius of the college as a precautionary measure until Sunday.
Meanwhile, Karnataka reported 402 new COVIDcases and six deaths on Saturday. As per the state's health department, the state has 6,611 active cases The state has recorded 29,94,963 infections since the onset of the pandemic last year.
