Karnataka: Massive fire erupts on Ankola-Yelapur highway after tanker overturned

Bangalore: A massive fire broke out when a tanker carrying chemicals overturned at Arbali Ghat near Ankola-Yelapur highway in Karnataka on Wednesday morning. The movement of trains on this road was stopped after the fire incident. According to officials, the incident took place at 7.30 am on the Ankola-Yelapur highway when a tanker carrying benzene from a subsidiary of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) to a paint firm in Gujarat faced an accident.

The district administration said it is cooperating with MRPL and a team has been sent with neutral agents. The company's transporter is ordering alternative tankers to transfer chemicals from caravans. Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) Commissioner Manoj Ranjan said action is being taken as per the standard operating procedure for chemical leakage.

Earlier, there was an explosion in Bharat Chemicals in Boisar Tarapur industrial area of Palghar in Maharashtra late at night. Those injured in the blast were admitted to Tunga Hospital. However, the cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. But the blast was so loud that the sound of the explosion was heard in the vicinity as well.
