Mandya: A day after Sumalatha Ambareesh alleged that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy misusing the government machinery to spy on her, a Karnataka BJP MLA has written to the Union Home Minister seeking protection for actor-politician Sumalatha and actors Darshan and Yash. Limbavali said Kumaraswamy had resorted to intimidation tactics against Sumalatha as she was contesting against his son Nikhil.

In a letter The party's state general secretary, Arvind Limbavali, addressed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh dated March 24, said, “I hereby request you to kindly provide Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) protection to Smt Sumalatha Ambareesh, independent candidate in Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Karnataka, and leading Kannada actors Shri Darshan and Shri Yash, at the earliest in the wake of increasing violent actions by her opponents, particularly from workers and supporters of the political parties: JD(S) and Congress.”
Actress Sumalatha had claimed that the government is tapping her phones. The actress is contesting as an independent candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha seat against Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil. On Monday, March 25 she gave an oral complaint to the Election Commission in connection to this accusing the state government of misusing its powers. She is also expected to file a written complaint, informed sources.
