Bengaluru: Two new schemes - 'Arundhati' and 'Maitreyi' - have been launched by the Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board for brides of economically weaker sections (EWS). Last year, Yeddyurappa government of the state formed this board. According to the board, the first scheme - Arundhati, under which Brahmin brides would be given Rs 25,000. The second scheme- Maitreyi, under which Brahmin women marrying priests in the state will get three lakh rupees.
Chairman of the board and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader HS Sachidanand Murthy has said, "We have received approval to launch the schemes. Separate funds have been set up for Arundhati and Maitreyi. We are leveraging these funds. We are in the process of furthering the process of lifting. It is part of our efforts to help the weaker sections of the community. "
He further said that this amount will be deposited in three instalments. If the marriage lasts for four years, then in the fourth year women will get money with interest. To take advantage of the benefits of these schemes, applicants must certify that they do not have five acres or more of agricultural land. The applicant does not own a residential flat of more than 1000 square feet. The annual income of the family should be below 8 lakh rupees.
