NEW DELHI: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will decide the new chief minister of Karnataka today. After securing a resounding majority in the state, Congress is forced to choose between party mainstays DK Shivkumar and Siddaramaiah.
On Sunday, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) convened at a hotel in Bangalore with all freshly elected Congress MLAs from Karnataka. Leaders including Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, KC Venugopal, and Jairam Ramesh participated in the meeting, which lasted till 1:30. Former Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, party leaders Jitendra Singh, and Deepak Babaria watched the proceedings from the sidelines.
In a single-line resolution adopted at the CLP meeting, every lawmaker gave Congress President Malikarjun Kharge the go-ahead to select the next chief minister of Karnataka.
