The Karnataka alliance crisis took a surprising turn today as senior Congress leader DK Shivkumar was barred from entering a five-star hotel in Mumbai. A Mumbai police officer was heard saying during an argument with Shivkumar, "They are afraid of you. We cannot allow you to enter." The Mumbai Police has said that Shivkumar will not be allowed to meet Congress MLAs while Shivkumar has said that he has booked a room in the hotel.

Shivkumar was accompanied by JD(S) MLA Shivling Gowda. Shivkumar insisted that he had booked a room in the hotel. "I booked a room here. My friends are living here. There is a small problem; we want to hold negotiations. There is no question of threatening. A police official said he would arrange coffee for him at a nearby guest house. In view of the tension, a large number of police forces have been deployed outside the hotel.
