Bangalore: The issue of giving one lakh rupees cash to journalists on the occasion of Diwali in Karnataka is becoming political. The Congress on Saturday accused Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of trying to bribe several journalists on the occasion of Diwali and said a corruption case should be registered against him. Now CM Bommai has called this allegation a lie and part of the Congress toolkit. Bommai has said that someone has lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta on the issue. Let the investigation take place, the reality will come out.

The Congress on Saturday accused Bommai in Karnataka of trying to bribe several journalists by sending them Rs 1 lakh in cash on Diwali and said a corruption case should be registered against him. Replying to a question on the Congress' allegations, Bommai said it was a result of the Congress toolkit, adding that they were trying to spread lies. I did not give any instructions to give cash gifts to anyone.

Because of this, journalists are generally seen as thieves, he said. Talking to reporters here, CM Bommai said that when Congress was in power, how gifts were given by various people is clearly known and the media had reported it, be it iPhone or laptop or gold coins. Bommai further said, "What is the morality of the Congress? Someone has lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta in this regard and the Lokayukta will investigate the matter. It is not correct to say whether gifts were given or all journalists took gifts. Yesterday, a Congress spokesperson misinterpreted it.''
