Karnataka state took more than 200 days to test the first 8 lakh samples crossed one crore testing after a high surge in testing numbers. Karnataka is the fourth in India to cross the milestone, experts suggest to alter the strategy, shifting the focus away from a handful of districts, especially Bengaluru. Bengaluru’s share in daily testing has risen in the past 50 days and the Chairperson state Covid 19 expert committee, Dr CN Manjunath informed the focus will now shift to other districts, where the exposure has been low as per the sero survey.

The recently concluded bypolls in RR Nagar and the reopening of colleges resulted in increased number of tests in Bengaluru city, said Dr CN Manjunath. The technical expert committee recommends to increase the testing and will be stressed on tomorrow's meeting to the government. Now, the focus is on Davanagere, Chikkaballapura and Gadag.

Dr Giridhara Babu, member, ICMR task force on research and surveillance, said the testing strategy should be in line with the transition of the deadly pandemic, from period to period and one geography to another. Experts keeps on stressing the need to continue testing at least a lakh samples a day due to the onset of winter and projected second wave in south India.
