Bangalore: The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has expressed its inability to supply milk to anganwadis in Andhra Pradesh. The federation has said that the supply will not be made unless Rs 130 crore is paid by Andhra Pradesh and the price is increased by Rs 5 per litre. If the supply of milk from Karnataka comes to a standstill, more than 20 lakh children under the age of six may be deprived of nutritious food under the Sampoorna Poshan Yojana.

The Jagan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh is buying 1.10 lakh litres of ultra-high temperature milk per month from KMF under the Nandini brand. Official sources said that the state government has not made any payment to the KMF for the past four months. The arrears have now reached Rs 130 crore. Even the revision of milk prices has sparked controversy. KMF was charging less than Rs 5 per litre at the actual cost under an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government in June 2020, as the sapurna poshan yojana is a great social work.

In February this year, KMF had demanded an increase in the price of milk by Rs 5 per litre in view of the increase in the purchase price, the hike in the price of diesel. However, the Andhra Pradesh government had urged that the old price be continued till May 2021 instead of advance payments.
