Bangalore: The Basavaraj Bommai government of Karnataka has given the green signal to the 'Kashi Yatra' project on Monday (June 27, 2022). Under this, 30,000 devotees willing to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi will be provided cash assistance of Rs 5,000 per person. For this, the Commissioner of the Religious Endowments Department has been authorized to use the Rs 7 crore sanctioned for the 'Kashi Yatra.'
State Religious Endowments and Haj and Waqf Minister Shashikala Jolay have said that only the natives of Karnataka can avail of the benefits of the scheme. Voter ID, Aadhaar card or ration card etc. will have to be given as a certificate of the original residence. The minister said that all applicants who will take advantage of the Kashi pilgrimage should be above 18 years of age. For this, they have to show their age certificate. He said any pilgrim can avail of the benefits of the government-run 'Kashi Yatra' only once in his life.
He further said that those who had travelled to Kashi Vishwanath temple from April 1 to June 30 and want to avail of the scheme will have to produce evidence like their darshan ticket or waiting list, 'puja receipt.' They have to submit it in the prescribed format to the Commissioner of the Religious Endowments Department. Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai had announced a grant of Rs 5,000 for Kashi Yatra in the budget of 2022-23. The benefits of the Kashi Yatra Grant Scheme 2022 have been brought to those who want to make a pilgrimage to Kashi, but are not able to do so due to being financially weak.
