Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the case against a member of campus front of India (CFI), the student wing of the radical Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), which had raised slogans against the Hon'ble Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya case. The court quashed the case against the CFI, saying the police failed to get sanction from the government before charging it under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, the high court also said that raising slogans against the court's decision amounted to spreading hatred between communities, which cannot be taken lightly. The court further said that 'Accused Safwan went with others with the banner of CFI and opposed the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the Ayodhya case, which is nothing but promoting hatred and disharmony on the basis of religion between two groups.'

The high court said it was an act which was against upholding harmony in the Mangaluru region, where the accused agitated against the Supreme Court verdict and cannot be taken lightly. Safwan, a CFI member, was charged by the Konaje police in Mangaluru under Section 153A, Section 149 of the IPC and Section 3 of the Karnataka Open Space Disfigurement Act.  

What was the Supreme Court's decision on the Ayodhya case:

The apex court had accepted in the Ayodhya land dispute case that the demolition of the structure was a violation of law and order. At the same time, the court said that ownership rights cannot be given on the basis of faith and belief. While reading out its verdict, the court said that Babri Masjid was not built on vacant land. The court held that there used to be a Hindu temple there. The court held the ASI report valid and said that what was found in the excavation was not an Islamic structure. After this, the court gave a decision in favour of the Ram temple.
