The Karnataka government has filed an affidavit to increase the reservation cap in the state. Many communities have been demanding reservations under various categories from Supreme Court. State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai of Karnataka filed an affidavit regarding this in the apex court on Sunday.
Bommai said the state government has filed an affidavit in the SC requesting an increase in the reservation to more than 50 percent to protect the interests of the backward classes at a function at the Sri Kaginele Mahasamsthana Kanaka Guru Peeth. According to him, there was consent as the state government is committed to increasing the reservation in the Cabinet meeting in this regard. Accordingly, K'taka Home Minister said, "We are expecting a good decision from the Supreme Court." The Halumath community is also demanding ST tag. Bommai underlined in his statement that the Kuruba community wanted themselves to be categorized as Scheduled Tribe. In this regard, the government has planned to undertake a study of genealogy.
Speaking about the BJP government in Karnataka, Bommai said the government has been looking after all the communities and religions equally without any bias. He added that the Chief Minister has been extending every support to all the communities in the state.
