Karnataka- Belagavi: Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases  in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday that the state government has issued tight vigilance directives in border areas, citing the region's high economic connection with Mumbai.

"COVID-19 cases are rising in the state and surrounding states," Bommai told the reporters at Belagavi airport. We've imposed tight vigilance orders in border districts because the region has a lot of commerce with Mumbai."

Only fully vaccinated people are allowed in the state, Bommai said. Not just the Belagavi checkpost, but also other checkpoints in the area, have been urged to improve their security procedures. In the Vijayapura district, about 11 checkpoints have been set up. Though the rigorous procedures would cause some difficulty to passengers, they are unavoidable in the Belagavi district's interest of public health."

"A vaccination drive for children aged 15 to 18 years will be initiated on January 3, and Instructions have been given systematically.  Prime Minister Modi's intention to bring the children within secure bio-bubble is being materaliseed  through the vaccination drive to be launched on January 3. Those who are above 60 years old and have comorbidities will be vaccinated on January 10." The CM also stated that the state is completely prepared for COVID-19's predicted third wave.
