Bangalore: A case of corruption in private schools has come to light in Karnataka. Two associations representing 13,000 schools have written a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this regard. In which he has accused the BJP government led by Basavaraj Bommai of corruption. The association has sought PM Modi's intervention in taking action against the state education department.

The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools and the Registered Unaided Private School Management Association have accused Prime Minister Modi of demanding bribes for issuing recognition certificates to educational institutions by the state education department. PM Modi has been appealed to intervene in this matter. "Manyata is again forced to pay a bribe of lakhs of rupees at several stages for the further issue and other formalities," the letter read. The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS) in Karnataka said that it had raised issues like corruption in private schools in the budget in its letter to PM Modi.

The letter said that discriminatory and unruly norms are applicable only to unaided private schools and there is a lot of corruption in it. The association has claimed that many complaints and arguments were made to the state's Education Minister BC Nagesh, but all went unheeded. In such a situation, he should resign now. Even after the beginning of the new academic year, textbooks prescribed by the government have still not reached schools, the letter said. ''The education minister is not concerned about further liberalising the stringent norms and rules that both public and private schools can practically implement without burdening parents and students,'' the complaint said.
