Karnataka has seen a decrease in maternal mortality in India. (MMR) has reduced significantly from 97 of one lakh live births in 2015-17. It has now dropped by five points. Therefore, in 2016-18, this figure has increased to 92 per one lakh live births. Earlier, in the year 2014-2016, MMR was 108.
MMR is an important indicator that gives us information about the public health of a state or it can be said that it works to define it. This indicator also works to determine the progress made by the states in saving the lives of pregnant women at the time of pregnancy, delivery and lactation. Karnataka has now moved from 11th to 9th position in India.
Kerala ranks first in this case. Assam is the last in this case. Talking of Kerala, where MMR-43 was in the ratio of 42 in 2015-2017 with one lakh live births per year, whereas in Assam it is recorded with 215. Talking about Telangana, the highest decrease in MMR has been recorded here. The highest increase was from 76 in 2015–17 to 63 in 2016–18.
