We all are excited for Karwa Chauth, specially the ladies and married women are very excited for this auspicious occasion. It will fall on October 13 this year. The festival is observed by married Hindu women, who keep nirjala fasts for the long lives of their husbands It is also known as Karak Chaturthi, is right around the corner. It is observed during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Kartik month. The festival holds much significance for married Hindu women, especially from North India, who observe a strict fast on this day to pray for prosperity, safety and long life for their husbands.

Women are very excited for Karva Chauth as they wear beautiful clothes, Dance and celebrate in different ways but  it is not possible to stay without water and celebrate the occasion as our body reacts to the fast and fast causes various problems like dizziness, Headache , Fever etc. Here are 5 tips for your fast to stay healthy and energetic even without drinking water. 

Do not Skip Sargi: In Punjab and some other state you can have a meal before sun rise. So  if t is possible than do not skip this ritual. Having a pre-dawn meal is extremely important to maintain your energy throughout the day. Sargi is a traditional, pre-dawn thali which a mother-in-law gives her daughter-in-law. Eat plenty of dry fruits, seeds and citrus fruits to keep up your energy level.

Stay Hydrated: Karwa Chaut is a nirjala fast (without water) it is important to keep yourself hydrated. A day before your fast Increase the intake of water and other liquids (coconut water, fruit juices etc.)  and keep yourself hydrated during the fast. Have fresh fruit juice or coconut water to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day before your fast’

Nuts:  Consuming nuts such as almonds and walnuts a day before your fast or during Sargi as they make up your energy reserves for the day. These nutritious nuts are high in essential fats (linked to anti-ageing and lowering cholesterol) and are also high in protein, which will keep you satiated for longer.

StayBusy: It is a human nature when you know it your fast your desire to have food stimulate but do not think about food is to keep yourself occupied throughout the day. Keep yourself busy with friends and family, low energy work or household chores to keep your attention diverted from the fact that you are not eating. A great way to spend some time with friends. Go to work or kitty party or parlour. Stay occupied.

 Open your fast properly:  At the time of opening your fast make sure to not consume oily or spicy foods. This is because, the stomach’s acidity is high at this time anyway due to lack of food or water all day. Make sure to consume 3-4 glasses of liquids until you sleep to take care of any dehydration that has occurred in the course of the day. 
Follow these tips and enjoy your fast. Stay energetic and celebrate the occasion. Rituals and your health both are equally important. So keep fast but follow these tips so as it will not affect  your health.
