Karwa Chauth, especially the ladies and married women are very excited for this auspicious occasion. It will fall on October 13 this year. The festival is observed by married Hindu women, who keep nirjala fasts for the long lives of their husbands It is also known as Karak Chaturthi, is right around the corner. It is observed during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Kartik month. The festival holds much significance for married Hindu women, especially from North India, who observe a strict fast on this day to pray for prosperity, safety and long life for their husbands. After seeing the moon women opens their fast. This Karwa Chauth avoid market sweets and break your fast with this delicious Badam Halwa.

Ingredients

·         Almonds soaked in warm water for 1-2 hours, drained, peele 1 1/2 cups

·         Desi ghee 1/2 cup + tablespoons

·         Suji or Rawa 1/2 cup

·         Milk 1 cup

·         Sugar  1/4 cups

·         Almonds slivered to garnish

·         .Kesar or Saffrin

 

Recipe

·         Take the peeled Almonds in an electric chopper and chop coarsely.

·         Heat ½ cup ghee in a non-stick pan, add semolina and cook till light golden and fragrant. Add the almonds and mix well and continue to cook till the mixture turns golden and fragrant.

·         Add 1 cup water, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add saffron and mix. Add milk, mix and cook, stirring continuously, for 2-3 minutes or till the mixture thickens.

·         Add sugar, mix and cook, stirring continuously, till the sugar melts and the mixture thickens.

·         Drizzle remaining ghee along the sides of the pan, mix, cook for 2-3 minutes and take the pan off the heat.

Your Almond Halwa is ready to eat  but wait for the moon , perform rituals, open your fast and then eat it
