Varanasi: The trial in the Kashi Vishwanath Temple case in Varanasi has been stepped up. The next date in the case has been fixed on October 6 due to the district judge hearing the case being on leave. There has been a controversy over the past several years over the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Gyanvapi Mosque complex in Varanasi.
The Hindu side says that there was a temple, which was demolished on Aurangzeb's orders. A petition was filed by the Hindu side for a hearing in the civil court on the issue. The civil judge's court ordered it to be heard in the court, considering it a civil matter. The Muslim party objected to the application and petitioned the Senior Division court on February 25, 2020. The court dismissed the plea as out of its jurisdiction. The Anjuman Intejamia Masajid Mosque Committee filed an appeal in the district judge's court against the verdict.
On September 18, the Central Sunni Waqf Board also filed a suit in the district judge's court. It was to be decided on Saturday whether the Kashi-Gyanvapi issue is a civil matter or not. But it was deferred due to the district judge being on leave. The court will now pronounce its verdict on the issue on October 6.
