Sitara Devi also acted in some films which were excellent. Her debut film was 'Aurat Ka Dil' and she also performed in films like Nagina, Roti, Watan and Anjali. Sitara Devi received padma shri in 1970 and kalidas samman in 1994 for her special contribution to art and dance. She was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1969. At the same time, she was supposed to be awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2002 but refused to accept the award. She is said to have said, 'She will not take any award less than Bharat Ratna. '
