Katra-bound bus falls into gorge on Jammu-Srinagar NH, 10 killed

Jammu and Kashmir: At least 10 people were killed and as many as  55 others were injured after a bus fell into a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) today, May 30, morning. With 75 passengers onboard, the bus was on its way to Katra from Amritsar when the incident took place. Meanwhile, the injured were shifted to the hospital. The paramilitary teams and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) were engaged in evacuation and rescue operations.

Jammu & Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief  over the deaths caused by a bus accident on the national highway between Jammu and Srinagar and gave the district administration instructions to help the injured.

The district administration has reportedly been ordered to offer the injured people all appropriate care and assistance. All of the passengers have been evacuated, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kohli of Jammu, and the rescue effort is nearly finished. 

The CRPF, the police, and other teams have also reached the spot. The injured were brought to the hospital right away after calling for ambulances. 

Earlier on May 21, a 27-year-old woman was killed and two dozen people were injured when a Rajasthan-bound bus carrying Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims overturned in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.
