NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has taken decisive action by ordering the suspension of a government official who stands accused of raping a minor. The official has been charged with the distressing offense of allegedly raping the daughter of a friend multiple times, leading to her pregnancy. Kejriwal has also requested a detailed report from the chief secretary by today's 5 pm deadline, as per reliable sources.

According to a senior police official, the alleged sexual assaults took place between November 2020 and January 2021. Shockingly, the accused officer's wife has also been implicated in the case, accused of providing medication to terminate the resulting pregnancy.

A formal statement released by the government emphasizes, "The individual in question holds the position of deputy director in the WCD Department. Given the registration of an FIR pertaining to this matter, the legal process must unfold accordingly." The statement goes on to underline the Delhi government's commitment to addressing grave matters related to women's safety and child welfare, expressing the need for severe action if the accused is indeed found guilty of such heinous acts.

The case emerged into public awareness when the victim, now a Class 12 student, shared her traumatic experience with a counselor at a hospital where she sought treatment for an anxiety attack. As the situation unfolded, it was revealed that the minor had confided in the accused's wife upon discovering her pregnancy. The wife then allegedly arranged for pregnancy termination medication and administered it to the girl.

In January 2021, during a visit from the victim and her mother, the girl experienced an anxiety attack. She was subsequently admitted to St. Stephen's Hospital. It was during her counseling session at the hospital that she disclosed the entirety of the disturbing incidents. This prompted the hospital to alert the local Burari police station, leading to the registration of a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The filed case encompasses charges under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 376(2)(f), 509, 506, 323, 313, 120B, as well as the applicable provisions of the POCSO Act. Currently, the victim's formal statement before a magistrate is pending, and a thorough inquiry is underway. It is noted that the survivor is in the process of recovery and is receiving appropriate care.

Swati Maliwal, the Chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), has strongly denounced the incident and called for the immediate arrest of the accused. She shared her condemnation on social media, highlighting the disturbing fact that a government officer responsible for women and child welfare has been implicated in such a reprehensible crime.
