New Delhi: The Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), a Defense Ministry body, has disbursed grants totaling Rs 932 crore to over 3.7 lakh beneficiaries associated with the armed forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force) in the last five years (2018-2023). These grants were provided under various welfare schemes, including education grants for wards, daughters' marriages, and support for serious diseases. The beneficiaries comprise ex-servicemen, widows, and their dependents who accessed the grants through 10 welfare schemes operated across the country in collaboration with state and district Sainik Boards.

The grants cover diverse categories, such as penury grant, education grant, disabled children grant, orphan children grant, medical grant, daughter's marriage grant, vocational training grant, and serious diseases grants. The funds aim to support individuals ranging from non-pensioners to Havildar rank and JCO rank under specific conditions. The total distribution over the past five years amounted to approximately Rs 932 crore, benefiting more than 3.7 lakh recipients, as confirmed by CMDE HP Singh, Secretary KSB.

Singh, speaking at an event organized by the KSB to honor veterans and kin of martyrs ahead of Armed Forces Flag Day, highlighted that in the financial year 2022-23 alone, grants worth around Rs 250 crore were distributed to over 99,000 beneficiaries. The officer emphasized that institutional grants were also extended to various centers and hostels across the country, with increases in grant amounts over time.

Furthermore, Singh mentioned the steps taken during the 31st KSB meeting in April, chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, where initiatives were implemented for the welfare of soldiers, 'Veer Naaris,' and their dependents. Last year, grants for medical treatment, vocational training for widows, and serious diseases were raised to enhance support.

The Kendriya Sainik Board, operating under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Ministry of Defence, collaborates with state and district Sainik Boards to formulate and implement resettlement and welfare schemes for ex-servicemen and their dependents. The board plays a crucial role in advising on various welfare matters and managing funds allocated by state governments, Union Territories, and Amalgamated Special Funds. The KSB remains committed to an inclusive, participatory, and holistic approach to improve the financial and social status of ex-servicemen.
