THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following a leading television channel came out with exclusive news alleging that Kerala BJP President K. Surendran's son managed to get a posting at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) through the backdoor, the BJP leader trashed the news and threatened to take legal action in the matter.

Surendran reportedly said that no one will have any doubt over the timing of the news as it came when PM Modi was in Kerala, which was the only reason for circulating the baseless news.

I did nothing improper, and I didn't do anything to prepare for my son's appointment. The truth is that nobody knew he was my son until he received the appointment letter.  will take legal steps against this news, which has no substance. The media had earlier even accused that he was involved in handling unaccounted cash," Surendran said.

The charges against Surendran's son have, incidentally, been brought up at a time when the controversy surrounding the appointment of Priya Varghese, the spouse of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's secretary K.K. Ragesh, to the Kannur University has not yet subsided. RGCB is a department of the Indian government's Department of Biotechnology.

In the meantime, the Congress and the CPI-M are outraged by the allegations of nepotism against Surendran and are calling for an investigation into the hiring of his son K.S. Harikrishnan as a technical officer at RGCB.

RGCB offical said, the appointment was made a few months ago in accordance with the required procedures and regulations, and Harikrishnan is currently undergoing training. They added that the candidate's family history is not taken into consideration when making appointments.
