THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the number of daily Covid cases in Kerala declining, the CPI-M decided on Friday to hold the State Party Conference as planned, albeit with tight Covid regulations. The conference will take place in Kochi from March 1 to 4, as planned.
According to a party source, the rally, which is a hallmark of all of the party's conferences, will not be place, but meetings will be held with a smaller group of people and all attendees will be subjected to a mandatory RT-PCR test.
Last month, the CPI-M drew a lot of heat after its Thiruvananthapuram district conference held a traditional dance with roughly 500 women, despite the fact that rigorous Covid regulations were in place across the state because the third wave of the epidemic had just begun.
When a number of people who attended the conference became Covid positive, the criticism increased, and State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan declared that the Kochi meeting would be decided at a later date.
Despite the fact that daily Covid cases peaked at 50,000 last month, the situation has since changed, and daily cases have dropped to 20,000. With health experts indicating that the peak has passed and that cases will decline, the party has opted to proceed as planned. The Alappuzha district conference will be held on February 15-16, according to the Secretariat meeting.
