Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst political divergences within Kerala regarding Israel's actions concerning Palestine, the state maintains a steadfast commercial connection with the Israeli law enforcement. An esteemed apparel factory nestled in Kerala's Kannur district has been the reliable source of uniforms for Israeli police personnel for the past half-decade. The Maryan Apparel Factory, located in Koothuparamba, Kannur, diligently exports approximately 100,000 uniforms to the Israeli police force each year.

The establishment, renowned for its uniform provisions to various nations, extends its significance to the social fabric of the region, notably with a workforce comprised primarily of 1,300 women out of a total staff of 1,500. Additionally, the company has played a pivotal role in restoring livelihoods to those who were adversely affected by the crisis that befell the beedi industry in Kannur. The enterprise, led by Malayali entrepreneur Thomas Olickal and headquartered in Mumbai, is not only a symbol of entrepreneurial success but also a beacon of social empowerment.

Shijin Kumar, the factory manager at Maryan Apparel, disclosed that this year, they have once again received orders to supply around 100,000 uniforms for both male and female Israeli police personnel. "Our partnership with Israel commenced six years ago when a delegation from Israel inspected our facilities and were deeply impressed with the quality of our products. Since then, we have consistently received orders year after year," he affirmed.

The factory utilizes a diverse range of fabrics, including those produced in-house and imported materials, to craft these specialized uniforms. In addition to catering to the needs of Israeli police, Maryan Apparel has also previously received orders to create uniforms for correctional officers in Israeli prisons.

With an 18-year legacy, Maryan Apparel has continually dedicated itself to the art of uniform manufacturing, consistently serving security agencies in various countries, including the Philippines and Kuwait. The company's journey began in Thiruvananthapuram but later moved to Kannur, a strategic decision aimed at providing gainful employment opportunities to a significant number of beedi workers who found themselves jobless in the wake of the industry's turmoil.
