New Delhi: Kerala Governor and former Union Minister Arif Mohammad Khan is often in the headlines due to his outspoken statements. Now in a statement, he has blamed Indian Muslims for their condition. In a program organized in Delhi on Sunday (January 15), Arif Mohammad Khan said that 'Modern education was considered against Islam. They either wanted to ban it or prevent Muslim students from reading it.'
Arif Mohammad Khan, while targeting the Islamic fundamentalists, said, 'The fundamentalists used to say that they would take action against those Muslims who sent their children to get modern education'. Referring to Sir Syed who founded the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Arif Mohammad Khan said, 'Sir Syed had said that we (Muslims) are ourselves responsible for our backwardness, he did not try to turn the blame. He also said that if Muslims remain backward in terms of education, they will become a problem for the whole country.'
The Governor of Kerala also said that fatwas in Islam are being used as a political weapon. He said that ever since he was in Congress, fatwas were being issued against him. Arif Mohammad said that there are always two types of thoughts in every society. But those who have power propagate their views. He said that the rulers appointed Maulanas only so that their decisions could get religious legitimacy. Arif Mohammad Khan claimed that after the death of Prophet Mohammad, Islam has been captured by politics.
Arif Mohammad Khan further said that there are at least 200 such examples in the Quran, where it is told that only the creator of the universe can decide what is right and what is wrong… It will be decided when people will meet their creator after death. He said that according to the Quran, no human being, not even the Prophet, has been given the right to decide on this.
