Kerala's Health Minister Veena George has initiated an investigation following the tragic suicide of a 26-year-old female doctor in Thiruvananthapuram, amid allegations of dowry harassment. The deceased, identified as Shahna, was a postgraduate student in the surgery department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

Authorities revealed that Shahna was discovered dead at her rented apartment near the medical college on Tuesday morning. It's suspected to be a case of suicide. Reports suggest that Shahna's family alleges dowry demands from a male doctor, whom she was considering marrying. Allegedly, he insisted on receiving gold, land, and a BMW car as part of the dowry. The marriage proposal was reportedly withdrawn when Shahna's family couldn't meet these demands due to financial constraints.

In response to this distressing incident, Health Minister Veena George directed the Director of the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the accusations of dowry harassment linked to the male doctor at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The Minister urged for a detailed report on the matter.

On Wednesday, the chairperson of the Kerala Women's Commission, Sathidevi, and other commission members visited Shahna's family to express their condolences. Sathidevi emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and indicated the Commission's intention to request a report from the police on the actions taken in this case.
