Kochi: The Kerala High Court has called for a CBI inquiry into the murder of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker. The court said that the whereabouts of some of the accused in this case are outside the state. Justice K Haripal said that recently the state police chief had also expressed some concerns regarding the matter and hence the CBI can also investigate the matter. In November last year, an RSS worker was murdered in the Palakkad district.
The state government opposed the petition saying its final report was almost ready and only one of the 18 accused was yet to be arrested. It said the whereabouts of the only absconding arrestee has been traced and he will be apprehended soon. The government said the final report is likely to be filed on or before February 10. On this, Justice Haripal said, 'Why does the police want to hurry? Let CBI inquire, what is your problem? There were bases outside the borders of the state. I think there are some aspects here which need a CBI inquiry.
The Kerala government has sought more time on this issue. The court will now hear the matter on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the counsel appearing for the petitioner said that the state should be asked to produce a copy of the final report before the High Court so that the wife can amend her petition.
