Idukki: The number of people killed in the landslide in Idukki District of Kerala has risen to 48. Today the bodies of 5 more people have been found from the debris. Earlier, the bodies of 17 people were recovered from the debris on Sunday, 11 on Saturday and 15 on Friday. On Monday morning, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has resumed rescue operations in Rajmala.

Due to heavy rains in many parts of Kerala, the conditions of floods remain. Landslides have also occurred in many places. After heavy rains, the teams of NDRF and Fire Department are engaged in relief and rescue work. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said in a tweet that the teams are battling heavy rains, mud and area. The District Information Office said that 2 teams of NDRF comprising an entire unit of Idukki Fire and Rescue Team, 1 team from Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and a team with special training are leading the rescue operation at Idukki's Rajmala. 105 members of the Kerala Armed Police, 21 members of the local police and 10 members of the Rapid Action Force were also present on the occasion of landslides.

On Friday, the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan had announced to give an ex-gratia amount of 5 lakh rupees to the relatives of the deceased. PM Narendra Modi also mourned the deaths due to landslides and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of the deceased.
