Kochi: The coronavirus has also affected Sabarimala temple earnings this year. During the first 39 days of the Sabarimala temple season this year, the income of the temple has come down to Rs 9.09 crore as compared to the same period last year due to the restrictions imposed due to the Corona epidemic. In the last year, the temple earned Rs 156.60 crore.

Travancore Devasam Board (TDP) President N Vasu told the press conference on Friday that so far 71706 devotees had visited Sabarimala this year. Sabarimala's income has fallen drastically. Compared to last year, less than 5% people have come this year to visit. 'Tanka Anki', the golden dress worn by Lord Ayyapa during the ritualistic procession that took place on the day of Mandal Puja, reached the Sabarimala temple on Friday evening. Due to the corona, only a few people were present, whereas on normal days, a crowd of thousands of devotees gathered to watch this procession.

This procession, which took Tanka Anki to Sabarimala, started four days ago from the main pilgrimage of the state and the Aranmula Sri Parthasarathi temple of Lord Krishna, where this sacred dress is kept. The dress was donated by the late Sri Chittira Tirunal Balaram Varma, the king of Travancore. 'Anki is a sacred dress made of gold, which is worn to Lord Ayyapa on the day of Mandal Puja.
