Kochi Water Metro to become operational by March: Pinarayi Vijayan

Kochi: Another unique project is going to start in the country after the bullet train and metro. So far the country has seen the underground metro. Now water metro project is going to start in the country very soon. The Government of Kerala is about to launch this unique project. The state government will start this project in Kochi, the largest city of the state. The Kerala CM said this during the foundation stone of the first terminal of Kochi Metro.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the water metro project would be operational by March next year in the state and said that it would require all stakeholders to make sustained efforts. Jal Metro is the first water transport system of its kind in India. The project will be implemented in a time-bound manner and the first phase will start functioning in March 2020.

In the program organized on the occasion, Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri also laid the foundation stone of Maharaja College- Thayakodam extension project and Petta - SN junction extension project. The CM stressed the need for infrastructure development, saying that it aims to improve infrastructure and construction and implement development work.

The government has started the process of developing the infrastructure. Jal Metro is an integrated water transport project connecting 10 islands in the suburbs of Kochi. According to the Water Metro project, a total of 78 fast, fuel-efficient, air-conditioned boats will serve on 15 routes covering a distance of 76 km in Kochi backwaters.
